Freelance rate calculator

Type the take-home you actually need. We reverse-engineer the rate after unpaid hours, expenses, and tax.

55% is typical: the rest is sales, admin, waiting, learning. If you already have a waitlist, try 70. If you are hunting every job, try 40.

This is a planning number, not a tax filing. In Israel, self-employed income tax plus Bituach Leumi often lands in the mid-20s to 40s depending on other income. Ask a local accountant for your bracket.

How this math works

Take-home is not a rate. We gross it up for tax, add expenses, add a buffer, then divide by hours you will actually invoice.

rate = (take-home / (1 − tax) + expenses) × (1 + buffer) / (weeks × hours × utilization)

That is why “I want $6,000 a month, I’ll charge $50/hour” fails. At 50% utilization and 30% tax you are not even close.
